About

Community engagement is at the core of our mission as a premiere, urban, research university.  As such, we recognized the need of a central hub of community engagement data.  We believe that this would encourage more efficient collaboration and information sharing across the university, with the ultimate goal of creating positive and transformative social and economic impact in our own community and beyond.  Every area of the university and various community partners provided input to shape what eventually became the Engage Wayne State University Registry.

The Engage Wayne State University portal provides a way for stakeholders to explore the breadth and depth of the engagement activities undertaken by university faculty, staff and students and their community partners. The university-wide perspective, which is provided, supports efforts to increase the number, depth and breadth of community engagement activities by providing a pathway for interested parties and stakeholders to connect and collaborate around similar or related topics, develop collaborations focused on underrepresented areas of need, and strengthen the network relations among existing partners and campus departments.

The data gathered are used to analyze and report the impact of these activities to members of the campus community, accrediting agencies and stakeholder groups, and will provide a more comprehensive accounting of the university's engagement activities.

Users can obtain a broad overview of engagement activities and explore various levels of detail regarding these engagements. As depicted below, using the search tool, one can explore engagements categorized by the type and focus of the engagement, gathering additional information regarding the external partner or community setting and the members of the university community (individuals and units) actively participating in a particular engagement. Engage Wayne State University also gathers information regarding the extent to which university resources have been provided in support of these engagement activities.
