Community needs and community participation in assessing those needs.
"Art therapy can benefit people of all ages in varieties of ways. For example, art therapy is a vehicle for expression when verbal communication is not possible or inadequate (due to medical reasons or trauma); the resulting art products can increase self-awareness as the artist becomes increasingly able to understand the meaning of the content of the art produced, and manipulating art materials in a creative process and making art with others can offer stress relief and pleasure. Some applicants or parents of applicants disclose medical, behavioral or emotional reasons for attendance such as needing help with depression, anger, grief and loss. A number of university students as well as professionals have expressed seeking greater self-awareness and desiring better self-care skills."..........................Source: https://education.wayne.edu/health-community-impact/programs/art-therapy-of-detroit
